UNITY TRI-CITIES

A spiritual community that Love is building as we participate in healing and awakening humankind to its Christ potential – one life at a time.

The message for our  Celebration of Thanksgiving, Sunday, November 24th, will be  "Appreciation or Gratitude:  Understanding the Difference."  The service will begin at 11am at the Carnegie  Hotel, 1216 W. State of Franklin Rd., Johnson City, in the Alfred Taylor Salon (lower level).  Please stay for coffee and conversation.  The Lending Library will be open before and after the service.

Basic Ideas that Make Up the Unity Belief System

1

God is absolute good, everywhere present.

There is only one Presence and one Power in my life and in the universe, God, the Good, Omnipotent...all-powerful. God is infinite, unlimited, unchanging, unconditional and eternal.

2

Human beings have a spark of divinity within them, the Christ spirit within. Their very essence is of God, and therefore they are inherently good also.

The nature of humankind is divine.  Within us there is a divine potential, spiritual perfection, a spark of divinity that the apostle Paul said is, "Christ in you, the hope of glory" (Col. 1:27).

3

Human beings create their experiences by the activity of their thinking.  Everything in the manifest realm has its beginning in thought.

There is a law of the universe known as cause & effect (aka the Law of Attraction). That is, every effect we see and experience in our outer world is the result of a thought held in mind.  We can change our thoughts and thereby change our experiences.

Prayer is creative thinking that heightens the connection with God-Mind and therefore brings forth wisdom, healing, prosperity, and everything good.

Every person's life can be transformed through prayer and meditation.

4

Knowing and understanding the laws of life, also called Truth, are not enough.  A person must also live the Truth that he or she knows.

That's why Unity is called "Practical Christianity".  Truth can be practiced and lived in our everyday lives.  We must move our beliefs and faith into action.

5

Unity is a Christ-based teaching.

"It is not orthodox Christianity with a . . .  set point of view drawn up by men.   Unity is the joyous spiritual expression of the new millenium.  Unity is for everyone of every age level or station in life.  Unity is a center of spiritual instruction, worship, and expression, helping us to discover and reveal the true Self.

- Donald Curtis

Unity does not say, "Here is a creed; you must subscribe to it."  Instead it says, "Here are some ideas that we feel are true about God, about yourself, about life.  If you feel that any of these ideas are acceptable and useful, then use them."  We do not offer teachings as final truths that you must accept or be lost.  We offer teachings as a set of directions that will help you find your way.  Unity is the church spiritual, the church of the individual, growing, seeking, unfolding, becoming what he or she is meant to be."

- James Dillet Freeman
